Strength in Stillness: A Dainichi Nyorai Pendant for Resilience and Clarity

His name is Robert Miles, a second-generation American working in the heavy machinery and steel industry in Chicago.

“The work is tough,” he told us, “and after all these years, it’s starting to show in my body—aches, tension, fatigue. I’m not looking for a miracle. Just something that keeps me grounded, steady, and focused.”

Born in 1980, Robert also happens to fall under the Year of the Monkey, making Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana)—the Cosmic Buddha—his zodiac guardian in Esoteric Buddhist tradition.

For him, we selected a stunning piece of ice-jelly jadeite, a rare and exquisite material with the soft luster of solidified moonlight. It feels cool at first touch, yet warms gently in the palm—like still water holding the memory of light. Its clarity is neither cold nor fragile, but full of quiet strength.

Inspired by the purity of the jade and the steady resilience Robert carries, we designed a Dainichi Nyorai carving—symbol of inner radiance, clarity, and unwavering presence.

The carving shows the Buddha seated in full lotus, hands folded in a meditative mudra, his face calm and composed. The details are refined:

  • The expression, serene yet full of quiet power
  • The eyes, gently lowered, hinting at an infinite wisdom within
  • The overall presence, stately and dignified, yet deeply compassionate

The jade’s translucent glow flows around him like early spring ice melting into a still lake, enhancing the sculpture’s sense of peace and purity.

“It feels like something ancient and alive,” Robert said when he received the pendant. “Wearing it makes me pause—and breathe.”

At TATHATĀ, we craft more than adornments—we carve reminders of strength, wisdom, and peace.

Every guardian has a reason.

If you’re searching for one of your own, we’re here to create it with you.
