Unshaken Will: A Fudō Myōō Pendant for Strength Through Adversity

Unshaken Will: A Fudō Myōō Pendant for Strength Through Adversity

His name is Steven Chan, a 55-year-old business owner based in Detroit, Michigan.

For over two decades, Steven ran a small but steady automotive parts manufacturing company—supplying custom components to larger assembly lines across the Midwest.

But in recent years, orders began drying up. Supply chains shifted. Clients pulled back.

Now, like many in his field, Steven finds himself under immense pressure:

rising costs, shrinking cash flow, and no clear path forward.

“I’ve built this place from nothing,” he told us. “But right now, it feels like the walls are closing in. I need something that reminds me not to fold—not yet.”

Steven was born in 1969, the Year of the Rooster. In esoteric Buddhist tradition, the protector for those born under this sign is Fudō Myōō—known in Chinese as 不动明王, the Immovable Wisdom King.

Fudō is not gentle. He is fierce—a deity of willpower, fire, and unshakable determination.

He doesn’t comfort; he commands.

We selected a powerful piece of ice-jelly jadeite with drifting green inclusions—a stone that felt both fluid and forceful. Its base was translucent like early morning mist, with green clouds floating through it like ink in water. The texture was smooth, almost waxy to the touch—cool, yet carrying weight.

From this stone, our master carver shaped Fudō Myōō seated in full wrathful majesty:

  • Eyes blazing
  • Crown ablaze
  • A vajra club in hand
  • Surrounded by an aura of spiritual fire and stillness

The green veining moved like smoke through the carving—subtle, shadow-like, alive. The result was a piece that feels like a storm held in place: restrained, yet powerful.

“This is not a peaceful piece,” Steven said when he received it. “But it gives me peace. It reminds me to stand my ground—even when things get dark.”

At TATHATĀ, we believe strength comes in many forms—sometimes soft, sometimes unshakable.

Fudō Myōō is for those who don’t want to be soothed—they want to keep going.

If you’re facing hardship and looking for a guardian that speaks to your spirit,

we’d be honored to carve it into stone for you.
