The gourd is a traditional auspicious object that has been cherished for millennia. Its name is a homophone for fortune and prosperity (fu lu). In Taoist lore, for Li Tieguai, one of the Eight Immortals, his signature magical artifact is a precious gourd, and is said to absorb negative energy, gather wealth and blessings, ward off misfortune, and ensure safety. With its distinctive shape, a smaller upper bulb and a larger lower one. The gourd symbolizes the continuous accumulation of wealth and an endless stream of good fortune.
